The Colibriyo quartet interprets versions for guitar quartet of tangos, waltzes, and milongas from the Río de la Plata, with arrangements by Aníbal Arias and Pablo Rey.
Guitar quartet
The guitar quartet is a traditional format from the Río de la Plata and in particular from Uruguay. In Buenos Aires, Carlos Gardel popularized the accompaniments in duo, trio and guitar quartet. In Uruguay, Alfredo Zitarrosa is strongly identified with the guitar quartet accompaniment, with the direct antecedent of Amalia de la Vega.
